A root ball can spread four to ten times wider than the trunk, so roots are often where the trouble is. They lift lawns and paths, send up suckers and get in the way of new planting or building.
We grind the stump and follow the main roots out, digging where we need to, so the ground is clear. It takes a little longer than grinding the stump alone, and we will tell you that on the visit.

What is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?+
There isn't one. Grinding is the way we remove a stump: the machine cuts it away below the surface until it has gone. Any roots that need to come out are dealt with in the same visit.
How deep do you grind?+
For most jobs it is between 20cm and 40cm, depending on what comes next. Shallower for new turf, deeper for a patio, drive or foundations. Tell us the plan and we match it.
What happens to the chippings?+
We backfill the hole with them and rake it level. You are left with a heap of wood chip. This can be used as a top dressing on flower beds or mixed in with compost.
Do you do any other tree work?+
No. Stumps and roots are all we do. If you need a tree felled first, we are happy to recommend tree surgeons we work with.
